Job summary

The Office of the New York State Comptroller is seeking individuals to assist in performance audits across agencies, focusing on management and program performance. Trainees will receive structured and on-the-job training to gain full auditing capabilities and compliance knowledge.

The role includes evaluating procedures, preparing audit papers, discussing findings, and participating in conferences with auditees.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or graduate degree in accounting, business, IT fields listed or related areas.
• One year of professional accounting and/or auditing experience for Trainee 2; two years for Trainee 1.
• A master's/doctoral degree in accounting, business, or related fields qualifies for advanced trainee level.
• Competitive minimum qualifications include eligibility on the appropriate list or transfer eligibility under NY Civil Service rules.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate systems and procedures for compliance with laws, rules, and contract terms.
• Assess program efficiency and effectiveness; ensure funds used lawfully and appropriately.
• Prepare audit work papers documenting work and conclusions; discuss findings with auditees.
• Participate in exit and entrance conferences and prepare preliminary findings.
• May require traineeship leading to full SG-18 level based on qualifications.
