Job summary

The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is hiring a Groundskeeper at Chippokes State Park to maintain outdoor spaces, facilities, and equipment.

Chippokes State Park is accepting applications for a Groundskeeper position.

Job Summary:

The Groundskeeper is responsible for performing routine grounds maintenance,light construction, and cleaning tasks essential to the operation and upkeep of theVirginia State Park facilities, grounds, and equipment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Clean and maintain bathhouses, campsites, and facilities.
• Mow grass and perform general grounds keeping landscape maintenance tasks.
• Remove leaves, trash, and litter from park areas to ensure a clean and safe environment.
• Perform basic maintenance and routine care on vehicles, tools, and equipment.
• Work involves standing, bending, and regular exposure to outdoor elements.
• Assist with additional maintenance and operational tasks as assigned by supervisors.
• Availability to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evening shifts is required.
• Valid Driver's License required.
• Willingness to work outdoorsin a variety of weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ability to perform or assist with basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and masonry tasks.

Additional Considerations:

• Knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and masonry is preferred but not required.

Special Instructions:

Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.

Driver’s License Requirement:

A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.

Work Requirements:

Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.
