Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service is seeking a State Park Ranger Supervisor to oversee operations at multiple state parks in Frederick County and surrounding areas, directing visitor services, resource protection, and maintenance.
The role requires leading staff, coordinating budgets, grants, and scheduling, ensuring safety and compliance, weekend/holiday work, and providing guidance on interpretive programs.
Introduction This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.

State Park Ranger Supervisor is the supervisory level of work in programs of the state park system. A State Park Ranger Supervisor is responsible for the operation of a small park facility and supervises the work of staff in all areas of park operations: visitor services, resource development and protection, facility, recreation, interpretive services, property management, collection and processing of park system revenue, concessions and maintenance. State Park Ranger Supervisor directly supervises one or more subordinate maintenance staff, State Park Rangers, administrative assistants, and may supervise clerical staff and short and long term contractual positions. Managerial supervision is received from a State Park Ranger Assistant Manager, State Park Ranger Manager or other higher‑level designated managerial position. Employees are subject to call‑in, and may be required to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays and to work outdoors in all kinds of weather. The work may require lifting objects weighing twenty‑five pounds or more. State Park Ranger Supervisor is differentiated from the State Park Ranger Lead in that the State Park Ranger Supervisor has supervisory responsibility for lower‑level State Park Rangers while the State Park Ranger Lead assigns, reviews and approves the work of and trains lower‑level State Park Rangers.
State Park Ranger Supervisor is the supervisory level of work in the operation of a State park. Employees in this classification interpret and apply Park rules and regulations to ensure voluntary compliance with park standards, coordinate forest and park programs, and inform visitors of forest and park resources. Employees in this classification supervise lower‑level State Park Rangers and may supervise temporary employees and volunteers. Employees are subject to call‑in, and may be required to work rotating shift, weekends, holidays and to work outdoors in all kinds of weather. The work may require lifting objects weighing twenty‑five pounds or more. These positions serve as an Area Manager and support the overall operation of state park facilities, and provides site supervision, instruction and problem resolution to full‑time administrative, maintenance and programming personnel, as well as seasonal employees and volunteers. Duties include but are not limited to: visitor services, general ground, facility and state housing maintenance, grants administration, communicating established procedures and policies to the public, developing budgets and monitoring expenses and revenue, interpretive services, collection and processing of state park and concession revenues, trail design and maintenance, and monitoring the physical condition of recreational facilities to ensure safe and efficient operation of the park, as well as the preservation of their natural, cultural and historical resources. Weekend and holiday work will be required.
Experience: Eight years of experience, four years of experience in forest or park management, recreation, or natural resources management, or preparing, developing or delivering programs that interpret natural, historical, cultural or recreational features and an additional four years of experience in park management, recreation or a natural or cultural resources related field.
