Job Opportunity: Deputy Clerk I

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Position available: June 1st, 2025 (subject to change)

The Eighth Court of Appeals is accepting applications for a full-time Deputy Clerk I. Benefits include vacation, sick leave, health insurance, retirement, and others in accordance with State policy. The position is full-time (40 hours/week), Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Applicants must meet the requirements outlined in the attached Job Description; appellate experience is preferred.

Qualifications
  • Experience and education in administrative or legal support work; a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for each other.
  • Appellate experience and legal knowledge are preferred.
  • Knowledge of legal terms, court statutes, and policies.
  • Typing speed of at least 40 wpm.
  • Proficiency with WORD, EXCEL, and ADOBE ACROBAT.
  • Ability to operate office equipment and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to understand and execute complex instructions.
Responsibilities
  • Receive, file, and process cases on appeal, ensuring compliance with Texas Rules of Appellate Procedure.
  • Examine records, motions, exhibits, and briefs.
  • Process payments and manage case docket entries.
  • Handle correspondence, inquiries, and document requests.
  • Maintain case files, dockets, and court minutes.
  • Assist in scheduling and case preparation for oral arguments.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

This entry-level position involves maintaining court records, filing, case tracking, and administrative support under supervision. It offers minimal to moderate autonomy in decision-making and is an at-will employment.
