Job description

This position is part of our Army National Guard division and will work at our Army Aviation facility located at Buckley Air Force Base as part of the Facilities Management branch. This position will work as part of a team to support the Facilities Manager and State Maintenance Foreman with general trades maintenance. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
  • performing basic preventative maintenance checks and services on various mechanical equipment;
  • repairing doors, windows, ceilings, and stairs;
  • applying and finishing dry wall, patching holes in walls, texturing, and re-gluing cove bases;
  • conducting repairs of plumbing fixtures, and unclogging pipes and drains;
  • installing, repairing, and replacing lights and switches, outlets, pumps, motors, controls, intercoms, fuses, circuit breakers, thermostats, and fan relays;
  • servicing air conditioning and heating units according to operation and maintenance guidelines;
  • maintaining interior/exterior security lights and fire sprinkler systems;
  • painting interior and exterior buildings and trim;
  • installing windows, blinds, carpeting, floor tile, ceiling tile, new window glass, and cased glazing;
  • moving furniture and equipment as well as performing a variety of manual labor tasks using hand tools and test equipment;
  • adjusting, troubleshooting, and repairing sprinkler systems as required;
  • replacing light bulbs, ballast, and controls in a variety of environments;
  • pulling weeds, cutting and trimming lawns, planter beds, and trees using trimmers and lawn mowers, and installing or repairing sprinkler and drip systems;
  • repairing fencing, trash pick-up and removal, maintaining cleanliness of grounds, and assessing and coordinating pest control services through contractors for indoor and outdoor treatments;
  • snow removal on unheated walks and parking lots as necessary utilizing vehicle-mounted plows and snow-blowers; and
  • performing administrative tasks such as ordering parts and supplies, following prescribed departmental procurement and invoicing procedures, entering work orders into the established computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), and tracking labor hours on a monthly timesheet.
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in a full complement of structural trades duties (building maintenance trades including plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting, HVAC, ground maintenance, or locksmithing).
  • Possess and maintain a valid and current Colorado Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience working with a military branch.
  • Prior experience with procurement rules and procedures.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Computer skills with Microsoft Office software and the ability to work with computerized maintenance and building automation systems.
Conditions of Employment
  • Must have and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment criminal background check (felony or drug convictions are not consistent with base security requirements).
  • Able to work additional hours outside of a regular schedule during weather events and available on an as-needed or emergency basis.
  • Able to perform strenuous labor.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, crawl, kneel, bend, reach above the shoulder.
  • Ability to constantly lift and carry ten pounds, frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to push and pull, manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, near and far vision, hearing abilities, and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work inside and outside, work alone, perform duties in extreme cold/heat, work above ground, work with chemicals/solvents, work around noise and vibrations, walk on uneven surfaces, operate moving equipment/vehicles, climb on a ladder, work in a small and confined space, work with machinery, and work in hazardous conditions.
Substitutions
Successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program or higher level course work from an accredited, non-correspondence, vocational or trades school appropriate to the work assignment may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. At the agency's discretion, demonstrated proficiency on position competencies may substitute for the required experience.
