State of Iowa is seeking a reliable supervisor to oversee welding operations performed by incarcerated workers at North Central Correctional Facility. You will manage production area activities, enforce safety protocols, and ensure all items meet quality standards.
The role requires strong blueprint-reading skills, equipment knowledge (press brakes, plasma, laser cutters), and the ability to coordinate tool inventories while maintaining security.
Supervise and coordinate welding operations with incarcerated individuals while using a large variety of hand tools, power tools and machinery. This position is responsible for overseeing the production area and ensuring all safety and security measures are followed. Quality control in this area requires constant attention.
Job classification duties also include instructing on various welding techniques, fabrication processes and safety protocols required by the Iowa DOC, North Central Correctional Facility, OSHA, Fire Marshall, Respirator Program, and Lock Out/Tag Out procedures.
Also ensure all products meet industry standards and customer specifications.
This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, excellent blueprint reading skills, and the ability to effectively manage welders and fabrication processes by incarcerated individuals.
Maintain the stock of raw material while keeping a detailed inventory of finished goods.
Also ensuring timely delivery dates of finish goods are met.
Maintain daily physical accounts of tool inventory and machines.
Replace or repair damaged tools or equipment.
Deliver finished goods as needed.
Monitor the activities of offenders in a minimum/medium security correctional setting.
Receives yearly training in this area.
Gives the highest priority to security functions to ensure the safety of offenders, staff, and the general public.
Conducts required offender counts professionally.
Teach I/Is to be a proficient welder; know and understand metal working equipment such as press brakes, plasma, laser cutters, and welders. Help management determine which piece of equipment best fits the shop's needs for capital improvements.
Work with CAD designers to determine best material for jobs.
