Job summary

Pearson is seeking a senior leader to drive the Career Ready commercial strategy in the U.S. with a focus on state-level funding and partnerships.

You will manage a portfolio of strategic states, direct a team of state strategy managers, and work with Pearson’s Government Affairs to secure appropriations and grants. You will meet state education leaders and executives, shape policy alignment, and lead negotiations to advance Pearson’s state-funded curriculum and certifications.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive experience in state policy, education policy, budget strategy, or related commercial roles combining policy expertise and proven commercial impact.
• Direct experience securing K-12 state funding (appropriations, grants, federal passthrough) for CTE, workforce development, or career pathway initiatives.
• Proven track record of owning and closing significant state-level deals with revenue accountability.
• Strong relationships with state education officials, governors' staff, and appropriations leaders.
• Deep understanding of state education systems, budget processes, and funding pathways.

Responsibilities

• Own a portfolio of strategic states with quota responsibility for securing $20M+ in state funding.
• Meet with state education leadership, governors’ offices, and appropriations officials; negotiate contracts with Government Affairs.
• Research state trends, budgets, and legislation to identify funding opportunities.
• Develop integrated state strategy frameworks linking priorities to funding and go-to-market plans.
• Lead state certification placements and ensure offerings are competitive in state procurement.
