Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Revenue is hiring a Director Personal Tax to lead tax policy interpretation and complex issue resolution for personal, withholding, partnership, and estates/trust taxes. The role requires deep tax knowledge, research skills, and ability to communicate complex guidance.

Office is located in Raleigh; occasional overnight travel and collaboration with state agencies are expected. Bachelor’s degree plus extensive tax experience are required for consideration.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of tax law/resources: personal, withholding, partnership, estates/trust tax.
• Ability to analyze and present legislative comments in writing; provide technical responses to tax inquiries.
• Strong communication skills for conferences and responses to inquiries.

Responsibilities

• Research and answer technical, complex tax inquiries via memos, rulings, and conferences.
• Assist with final determinations and review drafts for reviews.
• Represent the Division in hearings or testify for the Agency when requested.
