Bennett Thrasher (“BT”) is seeking a State and Local Tax Senior with 2–4 years of relevant experience in both sales/use tax and state income tax. This position will support our growing State and Local Tax Practice by working closely with experienced CPAs and attorneys who specialize in these areas. The ideal candidate has a passion for client service, strong technical knowledge of sales/use and income tax matters, and an entrepreneurial spirit to help develop innovative solutions for clients.

Responsibilities:

• Researching and assisting with nexus and taxability studies, voluntary disclosure agreements (VDAs), and other sales/use tax consulting engagements
• Contributing to client calls, offering technical insights, and providing regular project status updates
• Supporting consulting projects such as sales factor sourcing studies, nexus studies, and P.L. 86-272 analyses
• Monitoring legislative and regulatory changes; researching and drafting internal or client-facing alerts on pertinent developments (e.g., PTET elections, updated P.L. 86-272 guidance)
• Collaborating with compliance teams to address state-specific income tax issues and provide proactive guidance

Qualifications:

• 2-4 years of relevant state and local tax experience, with a focus on sales/use tax and/or state income tax
• Familiarity with key sales and use tax concepts (e.g., nexus, taxability, VDAs)\
• Exposure to state income tax issues for various entity types (e.g., corporations, pass-throughs, individuals)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to work with large data sets
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Actively pursuing or holding one of the following accreditations is strongly preferred:
• Licensed CPA
• Licensed attorney
• A Master of Taxation or LLM in Taxation is a plus
