NPR is seeking a qualified project manager for state grassroots advocacy to coordinate with the ACPR Advocacy Director and serve as the point of contact for selected states. The role includes shaping advocacy plans, creating model legislation, and producing talking points for diverse stakeholders.

The ideal candidate has 5-7 years in nonpartisan advocacy, strong policy communication skills, and experience across multiple states, with a readiness to work in a hybrid Washington, DC setting.

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of experience in nonpartisan advocacy, state and local government, campaigns or related fields.
  • Experience in government affairs or advocacy across multiple states or stakeholder groups.
  • Experience producing communications and/or campaign deliverables.
  • Demonstrable experience educating bipartisan lawmakers
  • Awareness of the local media landscape.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google suite products

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary project manager for targeted state grassroots campaigns coordinating with the ACPR Advocacy Director to serve as the primary point of contact for specified states/territories.
  • Support grassroots mobilizations and messaging through digital content, partner updates and other forms of communication.
  • Coordinate with public radio stations to create tailored state advocacy plans, draft model legislation, and prepare materials like one-pagers and testimonies.
  • Monitor state legislative and regulatory activity related to public radio across assigned regions.
  • Translate complex policy impacts and budgets into plain-language summaries and talking points.
  • Plan and staff tours or advocacy visits with state offices, including briefing packets.
  • Build relationships with state associations and stakeholders engaged on state policy relevant to public radio
