STAT, part of Boston Globe Media, is seeking a sharp reporter to cover the thriving biotechnology industry. The role focuses on breaking news, quick-turn analyses, and strong enterprise reporting including company and trends stories, with opportunities to work on podcasts and at STAT’s national summits.
The ideal candidate has at least three years of experience in biopharma coverage, strong long-form writing ability, and a collaborative mindset.
In November 2015, STAT was launched as a new national media brand focused on health, medicine, and life sciences. Since then, we have grown to be the authoritative and trustworthy news media source for tough-minded coverage of the business of making medicines, health tech, science, and public health. We produce daily news, investigative articles, and narrative projects in addition to multimedia features, podcasts, and opinion pieces. Our team of editors and reporters have won numerous journalism awards, including being named twice as a Pulitzer finalist. STAT is affiliated with Boston Globe Media Partners but is independent from The Boston Globe.
Job Description:
STAT is looking for a sharp, high-caliber reporter to join our first-rate team covering the thriving biotechnology industry. This reporter would break news and write quick-turn analyses, but also deliver strong enterprise, including deeply reported company and trend stories; profiles of top executives and scientists; and narratives. There is also an opportunity for this reporter to participate on a range of STAT's platforms, including our biotech podcast, The Readout Loud, and at our summits around the country. This reporter's exact focus will depend on a candidate's interests as well as STAT's, but a curiosity about biotech startups and venture capital would be a plus.
