Job summary

Broetje Automation is seeking a Startup Engineer to support new equipment and system introductions at our Kinston, NC location. The role emphasizes electrical and controls expertise, Siemens PLCs, HMI, and motion control, with hands-on troubleshooting at customer sites.

Qualified candidates bring a BS in Electrical/Electro-Mechanical fields (or equivalent) and 3+ years in industrial automation. Expect up to 50% travel and a commitment to safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering preferred, or equivalent experience in industrial robotics
• 3+ years in the industrial automation industry or equivalent experience
• Strong fundamentals in electrical design, machine/motion control, electro-mechanical systems, robotics, programming, and integration
• Experience troubleshooting electrical control panels
• Willingness to travel to customer sites, primarily Charleston, SC and Kinston, NC (50%+ travel)

Responsibilities

• Provide electrical and controls engineering expertise for new equipment and system introductions
• Act as internal SME in control systems (Siemens PLC, HMI, motion control), integration and sensors
• Apply knowledge of electronics, circuits, mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, and programming
• Travel to customer sites for machine commissioning and troubleshooting
• Maintain logs and written records of duties performed

Compensation/Benefits

• Competitive hourly wage, ranges $34.00 – 43.00/hour, plus overtime

Required Education

• BS in Electrical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering preferred, BS in Computer Science, or comparable experience with industrial robotics or machine tools
• Technical Certificate OR BS in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, and 3+ years of experience within the industrial automation industry or equivalent experience

Desirable Experience

• Industrial automation industry or equivalent experience
• Siemens Step 7 PLC troubleshooting experience
• Siemens TIA Portal; Sinumerik One
• CNC troubleshooting experience
• Experience in IEC61131 (PLC programming languages)
• Ability to analyze and diagnose automation problems

Qualifications

• Strong fundamental understanding of electrical design practices, machine/motion control systems, electro-mechanical systems, robotics, programming, and system integration
• Understanding of PLC programming languages
• Experienced in troubleshooting electrical control panels
• CNC troubleshooting experience
• Knowledge of NC Controllers: Siemens 840D or WINCC
• Experience using precision measurement equipment (i.e. Dial indicators, calipers, etc)
• Strong communication skills & ability to interact with teams, clients, and vendors
• Experience with aerial platforms and working at heights
• Ability to lift and move materials or equipment weighing up to approximately 40 lbs
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and repetitively climb stairs within a manufacturing environment
• Must have shift flexibility
• Open to working weekend shifts – (3) 12-hour shifts
• Must be able to travel to customer sites, primarily Charleston, SC and Kinston, NC (50%+ travel expected)
