Job summary

Phoenix Tailings seeks a hands-on Controller to design and scale financial systems for rapid growth. You will own day-to-day accounting, create scalable processes, and provide real-time insights to leadership and investors in a fast-paced startup environment.

The ideal candidate has built finance infrastructure from scratch in tech/manufacturing settings, understands GAAP, and can navigate ambiguity. CPA preferred but not required; strong communication and partnering with executives are

Qualifications

• 5+ years in a senior startup finance role.
• Experience building financial systems from scratch.
• Strong GAAP, financial modeling, and cash flow management.
• Thrives in ambiguity and fast-moving environments.
• Excellent communication and collaboration.
• CPA or strong accounting background preferred.
• Experience in technology, manufacturing, or deep-tech is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Build and implement financial systems, policies, and controls.
• Own financial reporting for leadership and investors.
• Develop scalable budgeting and forecasting models.
• Manage payroll, treasury, vendor payments, cash flow, AR/AP.
• Select and implement ERP and FP&A tools.
• Ensure GAAP compliance and tax filings with external accountants.
• Provide strategic financial insights to guide growth and fundraising.
• Identify and mitigate financial risks for long-term success.
