Job summary

PENN Entertainment's Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course in Austintown, OH is seeking a Starting Gate Attendant. You will load horses, set the gate, and ensure proper starts for each race while following all Rules of Racing and safety procedures.

Qualifications include a High School diploma and 1 year of starting gate or horse handling experience preferred. Must work well in varying weather, present a professional appearance, and be able to qualify for required licenses.

Qualifications

• Must know Rules of Racing.
• Thorough knowledge of horse racing.
• Able to work in varying weather conditions.
• Maintain professional appearance per policy.
• Licenses/permits as required by authorities.

Responsibilities

• Load race horses in the starting gate before post time.
• Schooling horses in the morning.
• Set the gate for each race and verify gate numbers.
• Follow gate procedures for on/off track.
• Make equipment changes as needed.
• Assist jockeys while handling horses in gate.
• Report maintenance or safety issues with the starting gate.
• Perform head starter functions if necessary.
• Other duties as assigned; duties may change.
