Job summary

SpaceX in Starbase, Texas, seeks a Mechanical Engineer (Starship Structures) to design and build flight hardware, including primary structures and propellant tanks, and own end-to-end design processes.

You will generate NX CAD models, build FE models, perform hand calculations, and collaborate across systems to balance mass, cost, and capability.

Relocation to Starbase may be required; hands-on hardware role with opportunity to contribute to historic aerospace missions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
• 1+ years of engineering experience designing, analyzing, or building structures (internship and school projects qualify).

Responsibilities

• Develop design concepts from a clean sheet and size vehicle structures based on flight loads.
• Collaborate with peers from different vehicle systems to balance mass, cost, and capability.
• Create detailed designs to implement structural concepts and generate CAD models in NX for components, assemblies, and vehicle integration.
• Build finite element models to assess designs in detail and verify they meet vehicle needs.
• Apply first-order hand calculations and empirical formulas to iterate on designs rapidly.
• Validate designs by building development articles to test joints and design elements for strength.
• Perform structural testing on subassemblies and full sections of the airframe.
• Partner with build engineers and technicians to improve designs.
• Support the assembly of hardware in the factory and witness designs come to life.
