Job summary

Sodexo is seeking a Starbucks Barista at Drake University in Des Moines, IA to deliver exceptional customer service while crafting hand-made beverages. Open availability and varying shifts support university events and dining needs.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, customer service experience, and knowledge of sanitation and inventory controls. Training and benefits are provided as part of Sodexo’s workplace program.

Qualifications

• Customer service experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, standards, and inventory control systems.
• Starbucks Baristas may be required to be certified.

Responsibilities

• Greets guests with quick, friendly, and personalized service.
• Mixes and serves hot and cold beverages such as coffee, espresso, cappuccino, café latte, tea, chai, fruit blends, etc., per customer specs.
• Maintains good customer relations and speedy delivery of beverages and food items.
• Educates guests about menu offerings and initiates upselling.
• Arranges coffee bar supplies and displays.
• Cleans coffee machines, restaurant areas, and preparation areas.
• Records sales and handles cash according to procedures.
• Mobility and walking are required; stand for extended periods (possibly >8 hours).
• Able to reach, bend, stoop, push/pull, and lift up to 35 pounds (50 pounds occasionally).
• Attends scheduled shifts on time; other duties may be assigned.

Employment Type: Full-time

Pay Range: $16.90 per hour - $16.90 per hour

What You’ll Do:

As a Starbucks Barista at Sodexo, you will provide exceptional customer service while making hand-crafted, quality beverages. The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below, but Sodexo may identify other responsibilities of the position. These responsibilities may differ among accounts, depending on business necessities and client requirements.

Responsibilities include:

• Greets all guests and provides quick, friendly, and personalized service.
• Mixes and serves hot and cold beverages such as coffee, espresso, cappuccino, café latte, tea, chai, fruit blend drinks, etc., while considering customer specifications.
• Works to maintain good customer relations and speedy delivery of all beverages and food items.
• Educate guests regarding menu offerings and initiate suggestive selling.
• Arranges coffee bar/cart supplies and cups/mugs to make attractive displays.
• Often cleans coffee machines, restaurant areas, and preparation areas.
• Records all sales, collects money, operates a cash register, and follows all cash-handling procedures as required.
• Significant walking or other means of mobility.
• Ability to walk or stand for extended periods of time, throughout the entire duration of a shift, which may exceed 8 hours.
• Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move 50 pounds.
• Attends work and shows for scheduled shift on time with satisfactory regularity
• Other duties may be assigned and can differ among accounts, depending on business necessities and client requirements.

What You Bring:

• High School diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
• Customer Service related work experience.
• Must have knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, standards, and inventory control systems.
• Starbucks Baristas may be required to be certified.
