Starbucks Assistant Manager
Position Objective: To help lead a team to create and maintain the Starbucks experience for our customers. The Starbucks Assistant Manager is required to regularly and customarily exercise discretion in training and managing the overall team, ensuring customer satisfaction and product quality, and managing safety and security within the department.
Reporting Structure: This position formally reports to the Starbucks Manager.
Status: This is a non-exempt position.
Knowledge
The following is a list of any certifications, formal education, or training requirements for this position.
- Essential Knowledge
- A food handling permit is required within the first 14 days of employment.
- Minimum of 2 years previous progressively responsible retail experience, preferably in food or restaurant.
- Must be Starbucks AST (Advanced Store Trainer) certified within 90 days of being in position.
- Completion of ongoing training and development as listed on the Cosentino Learning Plan.
- Non-Essential Knowledge
- A college degree in a business-related field may substitute for a portion of the required experience.

- Address employee relations issues and work with the Store Director and Human Resources team to resolve issues when needed.

- Ensure that the team adheres to legal and operational compliance results.
- Clearly communicate to team members the goals set for the department and their specific roles in achieving those goals.
- Plan and implement a daily strategy to complete all department tasks, and clearly communicate this plan to all team members.
- Assist the Manager in practicing effective inventory management by counting and verifying merchandise, inspecting deliveries, and utilizing cost-effective ordering practices.
- Be knowledgeable about department items to accurately and courteously answer customer questions.
- Meet or exceed productivity standards to produce desired results.
- Know, comply with, and ensure team compliance with health regulations, sanitation guidelines, and safety procedures.
- Ensure the department is always clean, stocked, and creatively merchandised.
- Practice rotation procedures to monitor product dates.
- Demonstrate strong verbal and interpersonal skills for positive interactions.
- Demonstrate basic math and reading skills required for the position.
- Operate, clean, and maintain equipment safely and competently.
Non-Essential Job Functions
- Promote department sales through suggestive selling, samples, and attractive displays.
- Resolve customer complaints professionally and involve management when necessary.
- Ensure new employees receive orientation and ongoing training.
- Maintain open communication with store management about departmental issues.
- Prepare, package, and label products efficiently and accurately.
- Unload shipments and stock merchandise without damage.
- Support additional tasks as assigned by management and assist other departments as needed.
Physical Abilities
The following physical movements could be part of scheduled shifts:
- Reaching overhead, twisting, lifting up to 32 lbs.
- Pushing and pulling items up to 20 lbs.
- Standing and walking for long periods.
- Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 32 lbs.
- Bending and squatting to floor level.
- Working in colder conditions like coolers and freezers.
Non-Essential Abilities
- Climbing ladders up to 5 ft.
