Job summary

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs seeks a Standardized Patient to join the Simulation Learning Center. You will portray patient cases, sometimes wearing makeup or props, to train students in clinical scenarios.

You will observe student performance, provide direct feedback, and participate in post-scenario debriefings. This on-site role supports education and patient-safety training with opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have work experience in healthcare or have experience as a patient.
  • Must have at least 10 hours of availability to work per month.
  • Experience as a Standardized Patient is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Portray the physical findings of particular disease states or procedures.
  • Play a character with mannerisms and responses consistent with the described role.
  • Observe and recall student communication and performance during the case scenario.
  • Provide feedback on student performance during post-scenario debriefing.
  • Review other SP performances and provide feedback for quality improvement.

Pay

$19 hourly . Compensation will be commensurate uponexperience and qualifications.This position is Non-Exempt from theFair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions.

Summary

Standardized Patients are personnel who assist in the education ofstudents in the Simulation Learning Center. Standardized Patientsare people without actual symptoms who are trained to consistentlyportray a character who has the symptoms of a particular healthcondition. Standardized Patients are scheduled as needed in theSimulation Center for particular times and dates.

Essential Functions

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but arenot limited to:

  • Portray the physical findings of particular disease states orprocedures. This may include wearing makeup, costumes and/orexternal props such as casts, bandages or tubes (that do not enterthe body).
  • Play a character with mannerisms and responses consistent withthe described role. These may be ad lib or scripted as determinedby the case author.
  • Observe and recall student communication and performance duringthe case scenario.
  • Provide feedback on student performance either directly or asrequested during post-scenario debriefing.
  • Review other SP performances and provide feedback for qualityimprovement purposes.
Tentative Search Timeline
  • Priority will be given to app lications submitted by: August9, 2026.
  • Potential interview dates: August 17-28, 2026.
  • Potential start date: September 2026.
