Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a Standardized Patient to portray patient scenarios and assist students in developing their clinical skills. This role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to accurately recreate medical scenarios.

The position offers $25.00 per hour and allows for virtual work as needed. Ideal candidates will be dependable and comfortable with physical examinations. Opportunities for retirement plans are available for qualifying employees.

  • Portray patient scenarios consistently and accurately.

  • Accurately recall and evaluate student performance using checklists.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding case content and student performance.

Job description

Purpose

Standardized Patients are trained to consistently simulate real patients' medical conditions, histories, and emotions in a standardized manner to allow students to develop and practice clinical and communication skills in a safe, controlled environment.

Position Details

Job Title: Standardized Patient

Department: Department of Medical Education

Location: UT MAIN CAMPUS (Dell Medical School, Health Learning Building, 1501 Red River St. Austin, TX 78712. Virtual work also available as needed.)

Hours: 10 hours per week (variable based on business needs)

Status: Ongoing, expected to continue

FLSA Status: To Be Determined at Offer

Responsibilities
  • Portray patient scenarios consistently and accurately, including medical history, symptoms, body language, and emotional state
  • Participate in simulated medical interviews and physical examinations
  • Provide verbal or written feedback to students constructively and professionally
  • Accurately recall and evaluate student performance using checklists or forms
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding case content and student performance
  • Attend training sessions and rehearsal activities as required
Required Qualifications
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to memorize and consistently recreate scenarios
  • Dependable, punctual, and flexible with scheduling
  • Comfortable with physical examinations conducted by medical students
  • High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in acting, teaching, or healthcare education
  • Familiarity with clinical or educational environments
  • Bilingual abilities (preferred)
Salary

$25.00 per hour

Working Conditions
  • Uniforms and/or personal protection equipment (furnished)
  • Exposure to chemical fumes, standard office conditions, biohazards, chemicals may occur
  • Climbing stairs, lifting, moving objects
  • Occasional weekend, overtime, and evening work to meet deadlines
Benefits

Retirement Plan Eligibility: Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) subject to a minimum of 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
