Job summary

Commercial Metals Company (CMC) is seeking a hands-on technician to support mill operations, including inspecting and repairing mill stands, reading blueprints, and coordinating with roll turners to keep production on schedule.

You will work rotating shifts, including nights and holidays, with opportunities for training and advancement in steel, construction reinforcement, and ground stabilization industries.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.
• Must read blueprints and perform repairs on mill stands and guides.
• Able to stand, walk, bend and work at heights in extreme temperatures.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and repair mill stands and guides using blueprints.
• Operate robots to replace mill stand rolls.
• Prepare guides for upcoming product rollings.
• Set up mill stands for production after installation.
• Open work orders, read and print documents from QMOS.
• Order parts and maintain spare-parts inventory.
• Participate in CMC Safety Programs and uphold safety culture.

What You'll Do

• Clean and inspect mill stands and guides that are returned to the shop from the mill floor.
• Make all needed repairs to mill stands and guiding equipment using blue‑print reading.
• Operate robots to replace mill stand rolls in mill stands with the next set of rolls needed for production.
• Prepare guides for use on upcoming product rollings.
• Once the correct rolls are installed and guides built, set up mill stands for use in the mill.
• Open work orders, navigate, read and print documents from QMOS; adjust the course of stand build‑ups based on QMOS information and scheduling.
• Help roll turners prioritize roll redressing based on roll pass availability and rolling cycle.
• Conduct thorough inspections of all associated equipment using drawings and standards to identify needed repairs.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sustainable working area.
• Make required equipment repairs using the ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Order parts and maintain minimum spare‑parts inventory levels.
• Participate in CMC Safety Programs and proactively uphold the CMC Safety Culture.
• Prepare equipment to meet upcoming operational needs.

What You'll Need

• Assist rolling mill employees with product change‑over and troubleshoot mill stands and guides that are in service.
• Coordinate with roll turners and roll‑shop routine facilitator to plan passes and mill stands usage.
• Ability to work rotating shifts which include nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Demonstrate positive engagement and attitude, including clear communication, participation in shift calls or breakdowns, willingness to cover shifts, and support for team members.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work at heights for extended periods in extreme temperatures.

Your Education

• High School Diploma or GED required.
