Job description

Description

Tradesmen International is immediately hiring experienced Stainless Steel TIG Welders for projects located in the Montville, CT area. This is a first & third shift opportunity, and the pay rate is up to $55/hour based on experience and skill level. If you are a Welder and want to work alongside other proven craftsmen who emphasize safety, productivity, and superior craftsmanship, this is your chance to advance your career!

Job Scope:

  • Install new industrial process piping
  • Work with schedule 10 and schedule 40 stainless steel ranging from 3"-30"
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, isometric pipe spools, and structural layouts to plan the sequence of cuts, fits, and welds
  • Cut, bevel, align, and thoroughly clean stainless steel joints. This includes wiping surfaces with acetone or dedicated stainless steel wire brushes to remove oil, grease, and carbon contamination
  • Fit up pipe spools, handrails, or sheet assemblies using precision precision-tacks, often using matching filler metals like ER309L for dissimilar metals or ER308L/316L for standard stainless grades
  • Set up and maintain argon or inert gas backing inside stainless steel tubing and pipe roots. This prevents "sugaring" (oxidation on the back side), cracking, and bacterial contamination in sanitary or high-purity systems
  • Operate portable DC inverter power sources (set to DCEN / direct current electrode negative) to lay clean, high-integrity root, hot, fill, and cap passes on pipe, vessels, or structural frames
  • Use techniques like walking the cup, using heat sink chill bars, or utilizing high-frequency DC pulsing to control thermal input and prevent warping or discoloration on thin-gauge or architectural stainless
  • Perform visual and dimensional checks, test for pinholes or lack of fusion, and apply pickling paste, passivation, or mechanical polishing to restore the corrosion-resistant chromium oxide layer on the heat-affected zone
  • Maintain a safe site footprint, manage compressed argon cylinders, use proper PPE (welding helmet, leather gloves, jacket), and follow hot-work permits
Requirements
  • Passa weld test
  • Pass a drug screen
  • Must bring your own equipment, TIG welding rig, welding hood, grinders, chipping hammer, required welding tools, and standard PPE
