Job summary

Vital Theatre Company is seeking professional non-union stage managers over the age of 18 for shows in their 2026-27 season in New York City as well as stage managers for single day tours.

Pay includes rehearsals at $20/hour, NYC performances at $125 per performance, and tour performances at $150 per performance. Responsibilities include managing rehearsals, paperwork, opening/closing the theatre, coordinating with FOH, running light/sound boards, and assisting with setup and strike.

Qualifications

• A working knowledge of all aspects of the theatre; technical and performance.
• Great with children and able to interact with parents.
• Excellent communication skills; written, oral, and visual.
• Timely and well organized.
• Must be able to lift and move small set pieces.
• Enjoyment in bringing the art of theatre to young audiences.

Responsibilities

• Manage and supervise the rehearsal process.
• Work with the PSM on creating and distributing paperwork.
• Open and close the theater before and after each performance.
• Work with the FOH Manager to facilitate audience flow and show needs.
• Call the respective performance, including running the light board and sound board.
• Assist the actors with setup/strike for each performance.
• Maintain and keep a call script for the production.
• Support the artistic vision and values of Vital Theatre Company.
• Assist the PSM in production meetings for touring.
• Create itineraries for tours.
• Assist with load in/out for touring.
• Communicate with technicians and house staff to ensure smooth tech and show.
• Manage merchandise while on tour.
• Driving is a bonus.
