We are seeking a creative-minded college sports expert who thrives in a fast-paced environment to join our FanSided editorial team as a Staff Writer.

As a Staff Writer, you will produce quality content across multiple NCAA network sites, aiming to attract a large readership with daily articles. You will post multiple articles per day on trending topics, opinion pieces, long-form lists, and more. Monitoring analytics will help you identify trends and deliver timely, engaging content.

What you’ll do:

  • Write 30-40 articles weekly, focusing on well-crafted, timely features that are interesting and engaging.
  • Stay informed about major storylines involving popular players, coaches, and teams to produce compelling content quickly.
  • Use your research skills and existing knowledge to generate quality content and new ideas.
  • Collaborate with editors and team leaders to optimize content for SEO and Google Discover.
  • Guide and support contractors to improve their content and site quality.
  • Complete assignments from directors to maximize traffic and meet content strategy goals.
  • Support your teammates with a positive attitude, assume positive intent, and contribute enthusiastically.

Where you’ll be:

  • We follow a remote-first approach, offering flexible work options.

The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $55,000 annually, based on skills, experience, and location. Benefits include flexible vacation, 15 paid holidays, paid parental leave, health insurance, and a 401(k) plan.

Requirements:

  • 1-2 years of digital sports editorial writing experience with basic SEO knowledge and a passion for college sports year-round.
  • Extensive knowledge of college sports, including current trends, viral issues, history, and key players/events in football, basketball, and non-revenue sports.
  • A confident voice to pitch stories and engage with fan conversations.
  • Strong communication skills for idea sharing and content strategy discussions.
  • Ambition to seek new ideas and innovative approaches.
  • Agility to produce and edit multiple trending topics daily in a timely manner.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize objectives while covering breaking news outside regular coverage.
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends during peak seasons and big events.
