Shield AI in San Diego seeks a Staff UAS Flight Test Operator to lead system-level flight test campaigns for Hivemind Mission Autonomy across multi-rotor, fixed-wing, and external UAS platforms. You will plan missions, configure equipment, and ensure safety in laboratory, ground, and flight-test environments.

Qualifications

• 8+ years operating Group 1/2 UAS platforms in test or operational environments.
• Experience leading complex UAS flight operations and crew coordination.
• Strong knowledge of UAS hardware, autopilots, payloads, and ground systems.
• Experience developing SOPs, risk assessments, and safety processes.
• Knowledge of NAS operations and flight-authorization requirements.

Responsabilités

• Lead system-level flight test campaigns across platforms and teams.
• Plan and conduct missions per test plans, requirements, and safety procedures.
• Operate, inspect, and maintain UAS, payloads, ground control, and test gear.
• Test pre-release HivemindSDK versions and verify features and performance.
• Develop representative workflows to assess autonomy, reliability, and usability.
• Document results, defects, and provide actionable feedback to teams.
• Lead risk assessments, crew briefings, and post-flight debriefs.
• Monitor telemetry, collect flight data, and analyze autonomy behavior.
• Establish SOPs, checklists, and standards; mentor personnel.
