Job summary

Waymo is seeking a Staff Technical Lead Manager to lead the ML Evaluation team within the PrePlan group. You will define the strategic vision for evaluation infrastructure, scale platforms, and partner with ML engineers to validate next-generation models.

You will mentor engineers, drive best practices across TensorFlow, JAX, Flax, and related tools, and stay at the forefront of ML evaluation innovations to accelerate developer velocity.

Qualifications

• MS in CS, Math, or equivalent industry experience in Robotics or large-scale ML systems with critical evaluation needs.
• 5+ years of experience building and maintaining large-scale distributed infrastructure, ML inference systems, or evaluation platforms, including 3+ years of engineering management experience.
• Strong coding and testing proficiency in Python and C++.

Responsibilities

• Define the strategic vision for evaluation platforms and scaling critical infrastructure.
• Collaborate with ML engineers, data scientists, and infrastructure teams to surface signals on model and system performance.
• Scale evaluation workflows to improve ML developer velocity and reliability.
• Mentor a focused team of engineers and align career growth with organizational needs.
• Drive best practices across the Alphabet ML stack to optimize evaluation workflows and metrics design.
