Job description

Join us in pioneering breakthroughs in healthcare. For everyone. Everywhere. Sustainably. Our inspiring and caring environment forms a global community that celebrates diversity and individuality. We encourage you to step beyond your comfort zone, offering resources and flexibility to foster your professional and personal growth, all while valuing your unique contributions.

Join Siemens Healthineers Molecular Imaging as a Staff Systems Engineer and play a key role in the integration, investigation, and continued evolution of our complex PET/CT and PET/MR systems. In this role, you will lead system-level technical investigations, define and manage critical interfaces across PET, CT, and MR, and help bring together hardware, firmware, and software developed by global engineering teams. You will work across disciplines to solve complex technical challenges, strengthen product quality and reliability, and contribute to the architectural direction of future Molecular Imaging systems. This opportunity is well suited for an experienced systems engineer who enjoys solving problems that span multiple technologies and teams and who is interested in growing toward broader system architecture responsibilities.

You are responsible for:
  • Leading system-level technical investigations into complex issues spanning multiple subsystems, with particular focus on the PET gantry, and partnering with development engineering teams to drive issues through resolution while maintaining system-level oversight.
  • Owning and defining cross-modality interfaces between PET and adjacent CT and MR systems, ensuring interfaces remain clearly defined, stable, and validated as products and subsystems evolve.
  • Driving system integration across complex hardware, firmware, embedded software, and application software developed by international engineering teams.
  • Advancing product quality and reliability by contributing to integration and test strategies and investigating system-level issues involving performance, timing, usability, and reliability.
  • Contributing to system architecture and interface decisions, particularly across embedded software and hardware-abstraction layers, with opportunities to expand into broader system architecture and cost/performance modeling.
  • Translating complex system challenges into actionable technical approaches by synthesizing input from engineering, product management, clinical stakeholders, and other cross-functional partners.
  • Providing technical leadership and mentorship by sharing systems expertise, supporting fellow engineers, and helping strengthen the team's overall technical capabilities.
  • Collaborating across global teams in the U.S., Germany, China, and India to align technical priorities, resolve cross-functional challenges, and support successful system development and integration.
This position may suit you best if:
  • Complex system integration: Integrating hardware, firmware, embedded software, and application software within sophisticated technical products.
  • System-level troubleshooting: Investigating problems that cross subsystem or technology boundaries and determining where issues originate and how they should be resolved.
  • Cross-modality and subsystem interfaces: Defining, managing, and validating interfaces between interconnected systems and engineering disciplines.
  • Technical leadership without direct authority: Building trust across functions, bringing teams together around complex problems, and driving technical alignment through influence.
  • System architecture: Understanding system-level tradeoffs and having an interest in expanding into broader architecture and cost/performance responsibilities.
  • Programming and data analysis: Using tools such as Python or MATLAB for data analysis, data mining, troubleshooting, and development of engineering utilities.
  • Global engineering collaboration: Communicating complex technical concepts clearly across international, multidisciplinary development organizations.
  • Medical devices or other regulated products: Applying disciplined systems engineering and development practices within complex, quality-focused environments.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in systems engineering, system integration, product development, or a related technical role involving complex medical devices or another highly regulated industry.
  • Demonstrated experience investigating and resolving complex technical problems spanning multiple systems, subsystems, or engineering disciplines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to engineering teams and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within large, cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 10%.
