Job description

Join us in pioneering breakthroughs in healthcare. For everyone. Everywhere. Sustainably. Our inspiring and caring environment forms a global community that celebrates diversity and individuality. We encourage you to step beyond your comfort zone, offering resources and flexibility to foster your professional and personal growth, all while valuing your unique contributions.

Siemens Healthineers is seeking a Systems Engineer - Applied Physicist to provide technical leadership for the system-level integration and performance of the PET/CT image formation chain, from raw data acquisition and corrections through image reconstruction and final clinical image quality.

In this role, you will work at the intersection of medical imaging physics, systems engineering, software, and clinical applications. You will lead early system performance testing and troubleshooting, develop quantitative image quality assessment methods, define and validate new product functionality, and help integrate emerging technologies into next-generation PET/CT systems. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced imaging physicist or systems engineer who enjoys solving complex, multidisciplinary problems and translating advanced imaging technologies into reliable clinical products that improve patient care.

You are responsible for:

  • Owning the system-level integration of the PET/CT image formation chain, ensuring that data acquisition, corrections, reconstruction, and related subsystems work together to deliver high-quality clinical images and system performance.
  • Leading early system performance testing and troubleshooting, identifying and resolving complex issues across hardware, firmware, software, and imaging physics.
  • Designing and executing image quality and system performance testing, including the development of quantitative methods and algorithms to characterize, evaluate, and optimize imaging performance.
  • Driving the integration of new and emerging technologies into PET/CT products by evaluating technical approaches and translating promising methods into practical system capabilities.
  • Leading the conceptualization, realization, integration, and validation of new system functionality throughout the development lifecycle and across the life of the product.
  • Defining system requirements, specifications, interfaces, integration strategies, test approaches, and validation criteria for new functionality.
  • Partnering with multidisciplinary teams across Physics, Software, Hardware, Systems Engineering, Clinical, and Product Management to deliver integrated imaging solutions.
  • Investigating and resolving complex customer and field issues related to image quality, image formation, and overall system performance.
  • Providing technical guidance and recommendations to engineering teams, project stakeholders, and senior leadership.
  • Mentoring and coaching colleagues on complex technical topics related to imaging physics, system performance, and image formation.

This position may suit you best if:

  • You have experience with PET/CT, PET/MR, nuclear medicine, or related medical imaging technologies.
  • You have a strong understanding of medical imaging physics, particularly PET image formation, corrections, reconstruction, and quantitative imaging.
  • You have experience with system performance testing and quantitative image quality assessment.
  • You understand clinical imaging use cases, workflows, and the technologies used in routine clinical practice.
  • You enjoy working across subsystem boundaries and investigating complex problems involving physics, hardware, software, and system behavior.
  • You have programming or software development experience, particularly for data analysis, signal processing, numerical methods, or scientific computing.
  • You can translate complex technical concepts for a broad range of audiences, including engineers, physicists, clinicians, business stakeholders, and senior leadership.
  • You are comfortable providing technical leadership while remaining hands‑on and working independently when needed.
  • You enjoy collaborating within multidisciplinary and internationally distributed teams.
Required Qualifications:
  • PhD or Master's degree in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Medical Physics, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical imaging, preferably involving PET/CT, PET/MR, nuclear medicine, image formation, image reconstruction, or related technologies.
  • Strong foundation in medical imaging physics and quantitative image analysis.
  • Experience with system-level testing, image quality evaluation, technical troubleshooting, or integration of complex imaging systems.
  • Programming experience supporting scientific computing, data analysis, signal processing, image processing, or related technical applications.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across technical disciplines and global teams.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally on an occasional basis (less than 10%).
