Job summary

Waymo is seeking a Systems Architect in Hardware Engineering to define the architecture of the next-generation Waymo Driver. You will lead multi-disciplinary trade studies and coordinate across Software, Hardware, Sensing, Compute, Safety, and Reliability teams to shape a safe, scalable system.

You will develop architectural options, justify decisions with data, and ensure interfaces and requirements are clearly defined for future SDS generations. This hybrid role reports to a Systems Architect.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field.
• 5+ years in systems architecture/engineering or complex system design.
• Experience leading multi-disciplinary trade studies.
• Strong understanding of high availability and safety-critical design."
• Deep understanding of autonomous system components (Sensing/Compute/Software/Networking).
• Excellent cross-functional communication and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead and conduct complex trade studies to define the architecture of the next-generation Waymo Driver.
• Develop and analyze architectural options for the Self-Driving System with safety and reliability emphasis.
• Collaborate with Software, Hardware, Sensing, Compute, Safety, and Reliability teams to align decisions.
• Define key system interfaces and behaviors for cohesive integration.
• Present clear technical recommendations to senior leadership with data-backed analysis.
• Work with Systems Engineering to decompose decisions into subsystem requirements.
• Manage architectural changes across SDS generations to ensure evolution.
