Job summary

Responsibilities

Job Description

The CT Technologist is a CRT/ARRT Technologist who maintains an ARRT sponsored CT Certification. This individual must also be certified and demonstrate competency in performing injection procedures necessary for CT. This Technologist must demonstrate the ability to perform CT exams in both the inpatient and outpatient environment, be able to work safely in an acute care setting and be able to interact accordingly with anesthesia and other patient care departments that visit the CT environment.

Scheduling and Compensation

Flexibility in scheduling is required, including the ability to rotate shifts and cover weekends and holidays. Salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Placement within the salary range depends on work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement is guided by the collective bargaining agreement. Responsibilities

40% Essential Functions

• Adheres to the AIDET acronym when initiating rapport with the patient before, during, and after the procedure: Acknowledge patient, introduce oneself, explain duration, explain exam procedure, thank patient.
• Demonstrates knowledge and ability to perform all responsibilities related to producing quality exams, including proper technique, views, positioning, labeling, and patient identification.
• Prepares room, equipment, and contrast media as needed to assist the Radiologist.
• Screen patients for contraindications before imaging in accordance with radiation safety policy and guidelines.
• Troubleshoots equipment failures, documents, and reports key information to appropriate individuals.
• Prepares patient for imaging, identifies self, explains the procedure, confirms patient identification, reviews exam requisition through the radiology information system and hospital electronic order entry systems before imaging.
• Performs daily quality assurance procedure in accordance with accreditation compliance.
• Works safely and effectively with ancillary and procedural staff in the Radiology environment and participates in the timeout procedure.
• Injects patients following department policies and procedures for contrast administration.
• Participates in orientation and training of assigned staff, students, residents, and faculty.
• Demonstrates the ability to perform job duties reliably, responsibly, and timely.
• Maintains constant communication with patients and fellow staff involved with the exam.
• Works effectively and efficiently under any workload or patient volume.
• Presents oneself in a professional manner and with a positive demeanor to all patients, co‑workers, physicians, and departments.

30% Adheres to Policies and Procedures

• Utilizes proper body mechanics to ensure patient safety when moving or transferring patients and equipment.
• Follows established Radiation Safety guidelines and is knowledgeable regarding California SB 1237, the Society for Pediatric Radiology’s Image Gently guidelines, and the Image Wisely guidelines for adults.
• Follows department and hospital guidelines for attendance and tardiness.
• Adheres to all hospital and department policies and procedures and remains current and compliant with all safety policies reviewed on the medical center Annual Safety Training module at https://learningcenter.ucsfmedicalcenter.org/
• Provides excellent customer service to patients, co‑workers, physicians and other departments.
• Respects individuals of different backgrounds, beliefs, and genders.
• Ensures work environment is clean and complies with infection control and environmental health and safety standards.
• Complies with the Hospital Hand Hygiene Policy.
• Maintains a professional, neat appearance, follows department dress code, and displays hospital identification badge.

• Demonstrates competency in the Radiology Information System and related downtime procedures, including proper scheduling and completion of patient exams.
• Demonstrates competency in the Medical Center’s current Electronic Health Record and ordering systems.
• Ensures accurate clinical data for specific procedures and selects correct Visit Number.
• Completes all exams in the radiology computer system following procedures.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the Incident Reporting System.
• Uses hospital and department computers for hospital business only and logs off upon completion.

5% Leadership / Supervision

• Demonstrates leadership skills in the absence of a supervisor.
• Prioritizes and completes tasks with little or no supervision.

5% Development

• Attends required hospital training, staff meetings, and in‑services.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a formal radiology technology training program from an AMA‑approved school.
• Flexible scheduling, ability to rotate shifts and cover weekends and holidays; willing to assist at any UCSF Medical Center Locations.
