Job summary

Brex is seeking a Staff Engineer for Travel & Expense to operate across multiple teams and drive cross‑cutting improvements in a high‑growth finance platform. You will set technical direction, mentor engineers, and partner with EMs to unblock execution.

This leadership role is based in our San Francisco office with a hybrid schedule: 3 days in the office (Mon, Wed, Thu) and up to four weeks of Fully remote work per year.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with leadership across multiple teams.
• Ability to identify ambiguous cross-cutting problems and drive resolution.
• Deep experience designing and operating large-scale backend systems in production.
• Strong collaboration and communication with ICs and managers.

Responsibilities

• Identify high-impact technical problems across Travel & Expense and drive resolution.
• Raise the technical bar through design reviews and architecture decisions.
• Partner with Staff Engineers and EMs to align direction and unblock execution.
• Mentor senior engineers and help grow future technical leaders.
• Bring an AI-forward mindset to how the org builds and operates.
• Contribute to the group’s technical strategy and investments.
