Job summary

IBM Software is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Secure Compute Platform. You will lead the design and evolution of a multi-tenant, cloud-native compute platform across AWS, Azure, and GCP. The role centers on secure, scalable workloads and collaboration with product, SRE, and security teams.

You will mentor engineers, drive architecture decisions, and own operational excellence including SLOs and incident response. Remote work is possible within the United States.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field required.
• 10+ years of relevant backend/infrastructure experience in production.
• Proven experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong problem-solving in fast-paced environments.
• Deep Kubernetes expertise including controllers and multi-region architectures.
• Proficiency in Go, Scala, or C++ with production-grade services.
• Experience with multi-tenant security/isolation patterns.
• Hands-on with secure container runtimes and Linux internals.
• Experience with public clouds: AWS, GCP, Azure.

Responsibilities

• Define the technical direction for Secure Compute and platform architecture.
• Design and implement Kubernetes controllers and platform APIs.
• Collaborate with product and SRE teams to shape the roadmap.
• Lead cross-team initiatives on scheduling, networking, and resource management.
• Drive architectural reviews and promote secure, scalable design.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and best practices.
• Own operational excellence including availability, performance, and incident response.
