Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for Access & Authorization. You will design and operate authentication, OAuth flows, sessions, and tokens, building secure Go/gRPC services used by our web, mobile, API, and partner experiences.

Lead cross-functional designs for signed tokens, passkeys, biometric recovery, and device-aware authentication while mentoring others and driving scale and reliability across Coinbase’s platforms.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend software engineering with production-grade distributed services.
• Experience designing secure APIs with authentication, authorization and token handling.
• Strong knowledge of Go or a comparable systems language, and distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end design and operation of authentication, OAuth, sessions and tokens.
• Build secure, low-latency Go and gRPC services used across Coinbase products.
• Lead technical designs for signed tokens, passkeys, biometric recovery, and device-aware auth.
• Collaborate with product, security, fraud and infra teams to balance security and UX.
• Create self-service tooling to enable product teams to adopt access controls at scale.
• Mentor engineers through reviews, pairing, and on-call participation.
