Job summary

Toast is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Scheduling product as part of the Team Management Suite for restaurant employers. You will design and deliver scalable back-end solutions in a cross-functional environment, collaborating with Design, Product, and other engineers to balance profitability, predictability, and guest satisfaction.

You will lead architectural discussions, drive technical initiatives, and leverage AI tools to enhance development velocity and influence how we build

Qualifications

• 8+ years of back-end experience in Java, Kotlin, or other OO languages
• Proficient with modern API design (TypeScript, REST, GraphQL) and relational databases or alternative data stores
• Balanced ability to design high-level solutions and optimize code-level execution
• Demonstrated technical leadership and cross-team collaboration
• Proven ability to partner with engineering, product, customer success and other stakeholders
• Commitment to engineering excellence, quality, and user-centered design

Responsibilities

• Lead deep technical initiatives to increase our consumer footprint and employee engagement in restaurants
• Design scalable solutions considering tradeoffs and future needs
• Participate in architectural discussions and influence the technical roadmap
• Collaborate with Design, Product, and other engineering teams to build robust full-stack applications
• Champion engineering excellence and improve development velocity using AI tools
