Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a senior software engineer to lead API and framework design for agentic RL research environments. You will embed with research teams, build scalable tooling, and help define engineering standards to keep production RL systems reliable.

You will work in Python-heavy codebases, ensure safety and performance, and mentor researchers and engineers while shaping the direction of our infrastructure and runtimes.

Qualifications

• Deep expertise in Python, including static typing, safe async and concurrency patterns, and writing performant Python code.
• Track record of designing intuitive, safe APIs or frameworks used across teams.
• Experience in large, evolving or research-style codebases.
• Ability to anticipate silent failure modes via system design, type safety and testing.
• Strong written and verbal communication to explain system designs to varied audiences.
• Comfort with ambiguity and driving work to a maintainable outcome.

Responsibilities

• Design widely-used APIs, frameworks, and abstractions for engineers and researchers.
• Embed with research teams on a rotational basis and transfer ownership.
• Work directly in research codebases to improve reliability and structure.
• Prevent silent failures through type safety, invariants, and targeted testing.
• Ensure reliability of production RL systems with monitoring and triage tooling.
• Define engineering standards and mentor teams in adopting them.
