We’re searching for a Staff Software Engineer- Remote Assist.The Remote Assist team within the Aurora Services organization is responsible for onboard, backend, and frontend development of the Remote Assist service that enables human operators to provide support to autonomous vehicles with detailed situational awareness through live streamed video, perception, and vehicle status data.We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join the Remote Assist team with a focus on backend and onboard systems.In this role you will:

  • Architect and build scalable cloud backend services that power real-time session management for autonomous vehicles requesting assistance and human operators providing assistance.
  • Leverage operational and technical data to optimize the efficiency of Command Center operations through intelligent real-time matching assignments.
  • Develop and deploy robust, well-engineered solutions, leveraging modern cloud technologies and building highly available, low-latency backend services, APIs, and data pipelines.
  • Provide technical leadership and influence best practices across multiple engineering teams at the intersection of cloud services and real-world autonomy.
  • Mentor and grow senior engineers, raising the technical bar for the entire organization through code reviews, design discussions, and promoting a culture of engineering excellence.
  • Partner with leaders across autonomy, cloud infrastructure, and operations to define technical roadmaps, align on priorities, and drive complex projects from inception to completion.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of industry experience in software development, with a proven track record of designing, building, and operating large-scale backend systems.
  • Deep expertise in cloud backend development, including scalable web services, distributed systems, and modern API design.
  • Proficiency with cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices (e.g., AWS, Kubernetes, Elasticache, CI/CD, and monitoring/alerting systems).
  • Experience building large-scale gRPC services in Golang.
  • Experience in a leadership role, driving technical strategy, influencing architectural decisions, and mentoring senior engineers.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively partner with cross-functional teams and present technical solutions to a diverse audience.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in onboard C++ development for autonomous vehicles or other robotics.
  • Experience in operations research or optimization algorithms.
  • Experience in transportation, logistics, or other time-sensitive operations.
  • Experience defining technical roadmaps and driving long-term strategic projects that span multiple engineering teams.

The base salary range for this position is $171,000- $273,000. Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.#LI-Mid-Senior
