Job summary

Cockroach Labs is seeking a software engineer in Toronto to join Production Services. You’ll work hands-on on customer-facing features for CockroachDB Cloud, including backup and restore, disaster recovery, and private connectivity, with a focus on reliability and SLAs.

You will build and maintain production systems, instrument observability, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. Expect on-call duty, learning distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and applying AI to operational

Qualifications

• Solid understanding of reliability principles, SLOs/SLAs, error budgets, and operational outcomes.
• Experience building and running production-grade systems, incl. data pipelines or customer-facing infra.
• Comfort with Go or Python; Go is used here.
• Good observability instincts and ability to instrument systems.
• Experience running Kubernetes in production.
• Familiarity with AWS, Azure, or GCP and their APIs.
• On-call experience; stay calm under pressure.
• CS degree or equivalent; 5+ years preferred.
• Collaborative team player with distributed team experience.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain backup/restore systems protecting customer data.
• Improve customer-facing platform capabilities for CockroachDB Cloud.
• Instrument systems with metrics, alerts, and tooling to surface issues.
• Reduce toil by building automation and tooling.
• Explore applying AI to operational workflows, diagnostics and new features.
• Participate in on-call for production systems.
• Partner with Production Infrastructure, Production Orchestration, and other teams on reliability and architecture.
