Job summary

CNN is seeking a Staff Software Developer to build fast, secure, scalable apps at the core of CNN’s affiliate distribution ecosystem. You will collaborate with designers, product peers, editorial teams, and engineering colleagues to deliver features that support daily journalism and global content operations.

You will develop platform features for the ContentXP team in Node.js, create UIs with React or Vue, and design backend services deployed on AWS.

Qualifications

• 9+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience with Node.js and modern JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Experience building applications with React or Vue.js.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services (Lambda, ECS/EKS, S3, CloudFront, API Gateway).
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and modern engineering practices.
• Experience with Postgres and caching technologies such as Redis or DynamoDB.
• Ability to break down complex initiatives into well-defined engineering work.
• Strong cross-team communication and collaboration skills.
• Regular use of AI development tools (Cursor, Codex, Claude, etc.) to improve velocity and code quality.
• Commitment to code quality, testing, performance, and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Develop platform features for ContentXP team using Node.js, React or Vue.js, and AWS-backed services.
• Build user-facing interfaces and backend services deployed on AWS to support daily journalism and content operations.
• Contribute to architecture reviews, write maintainable code, and integrate with internal content platforms and media pipelines.
• Support CI/CD workflows, participate in incident response, and partner with design, product, editorial, and engineering teams.
