Position Summary

Walmart is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks. This role involves driving the full software lifecycle, applying cloud-native architecture principles, and ensuring high-quality system design. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and collaborate across functions to translate complex business needs into effective technical solutions. A commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence is essential to support Walmart’s evolving technology landscape and business objectives.

What you’ll do
  • Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap milestones and domain priorities.
  • Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
  • Lead full software development lifecycle activities including coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Conduct system design reviews to validate feasibility and ensure alignment with architectural best practices.
  • Build AI-driven applications and integrate ML components using multiple programming languages.
  • Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence through documentation and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate across teams to define technical requirements and optimize development processes using data-driven practices.
What you’ll bring
  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to ensure scalable and resilient systems.
  • Strong hands‑on development skills across multiple programming languages such as JavaScript, Python, Java, and C++.
  • Experience leading full software development lifecycle activities, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and maintenance.
  • Ability to conduct thorough system design reviews and apply software design patterns for secure, maintainable, and modular solutions.
  • Demonstrated capability in API design, software prototyping, and DevOps engineering to enhance platform productivity.
  • Skilled in data-driven decision making and driving engineering excellence through continuous improvement and error correction.
  • Effective collaborator with strong communication skills to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Salary

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00

Minimum Qualifications
