Who You Are

Phaidra is looking for a driven Staff Software Engineer to join our Product Engineering team. You will be part of our frontend team building our web-based self-serve product for industrial users. You are passionate about frontend development and delivering exceptional user and developer experiences. You demonstrate ownership and collaboration, help others, lead by example, establish best practices, and uphold high standards.

The Product Engineering team builds the tools and applications that customers use to configure and monitor our AI-powered control systems. We are seeking a team member located within the USA (Eastern timezone).

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate has solid experience in frontend development. At Phaidra, you will:

• Contribute to design and implementation of frontend applications.
• Set team standards and mentor junior frontend engineers. Participate in code reviews and help develop a strong engineering culture.
• Collaborate with UI/UX designers and provide frontend insights.
• Convert designs and wireframes into high-quality, pixel-perfect UI.
• Collaborate with Product Managers and Solution Architects to understand user requirements.
• Collaborate with Backend Engineers to integrate APIs.
• Collaborate with Infrastructure Engineers to define frontend infrastructure solutions.
• Maintain a high level of code and architecture documentation.

Key Qualifications

• 5+ years of work experience.
• Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
• Expertise in CSS3 (SASS preferred) & HTML5.
• Expertise in React and TypeScript or a similar modern SPA framework.
• Experience using RESTful APIs.
• Experience with modern frontend build tools and pipelines.
• Knowledge of best practices and architectural patterns for modern frontend apps.
• Knowledge of User Experience and Visual Design concepts.
• Knowledge of WCAG.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Willingness to up-skill and support the Backend team as needed.

Bonus

• Exposure to industrial control systems and/or processes.
• Experience building B2B enterprise SaaS products.
• Experience with a backend language (not necessarily Python or Go).

Onboarding

In your first 30 days...

• Immersion in onboarding introducing you to Phaidra and our product.
• Time with the Engineering organization to understand how teams operate and approach problems.
• Reading of our handbook and familiarization with our documentation culture.
• Set up development environment and begin an onboarding exercise.
• Learn how we use Agile and navigate sprint boards and backlogs.
• Learn team standards and development & release processes.
• Learn about system architecture and infrastructure.
• Start with small tasks to familiarize with the end-to-end release flow.
• Shadow customer calls related to installations and deployments.

By your first 60 days...

• Solid understanding of Phaidra and our work.
• Meet with team members across Phaidra and begin building relationships.
• Complete onboarding exercise and begin first production task.

By your first 90 days...

• Fully integrated with the team and other parts of the company.
• Deeper understanding of system architecture and infrastructure.
• First on-call experience monitoring and improving production environments.
• Become proficient with our tooling and contribute to knowledge sharing.

General Interview Process

All interviews are via Google Meet with active video. The process typically includes:

• People Operations interview (30 minutes)
• Hiring Manager interview (30 minutes)
• Technical interview with Software Engineering (60 minutes)
• Product and Design interview (60 minutes)
• Culture fit interview with Phaidra’s co-founders (30 minutes)

These are base salary ranges and benefits estimates; actual compensation depends on experience, level, and location. Phaidra is a 100% remote company with a digital nomad policy and offers equity, medical/dental/vision insurance (region dependent), unlimited PTO with a minimum of 20 days per year, paid parental leave (region dependent), home office setup allowance, coworking space stipend, and a company MacBook.
