Google is seeking a visionary software engineer to advance RCS capabilities at scale. You will optimize the protocol stack and client architecture for billions of users across Android, iOS, and devices.

The role emphasizes high performance, distributed systems expertise, and the integration of real-time communications with AI-enabled workflows. This is a full-time position based in Mountain View, CA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years in software development in mobile systems, networks or high-performance apps.

• Profile, debug, and enhance our RCS protocol stack and client-side architecture for throughput and latency.
• Design robust systems handling massive concurrency with global interoperability.
• Architect and optimize high-definition video experiences across Android, iOS and devices.
• Power high-res image sharing, live typing indicators, read receipts, and business messaging at scale.
• Drive optimizations for fast message delivery, low latency, battery efficiency, and reliability.

Job description

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in software development in mobile systems, network protocols (SIP/IMS/RCS standards), or high-performance application engineering.
• 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
• 5 years of experience with full stack development, across back-end such as Java, Python, Golang, or C++ codebases, and front-end experience including JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, CSS or equivalent.
• 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
• Experience integrating generative AI tools or LLM interfaces into workflows.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's or PhD degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Experience with real-time communication technologies.
• Knowledge of security protocols such as DTLS, MLS, and experience with End-to-End Encryption.
• Experience building distributed systems and backend services, and familiarity with gRPC and Protocol Buffers.
• Understanding of telecommunication standards like SIP and MSRP.
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
