Job summary

Google is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for Google Maps, focusing on Android, iOS, Privacy, and Geo. You will own complex compliance initiatives, guide architecture, and collaborate with Legal, product managers, security, and other teams to align priorities for Google and its users.

Expect to design scalable solutions, reduce architectural complexity, and mentor engineers while delivering high-quality maps-related software at scale.

Qualifications

• Experience owning outcomes and decision making, solving ambiguous problems and influencing stakeholders.
• 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
• 5 years of experience building software for data privacy or security (e.g., identity and access management).
• 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Own the strategy, scoping, and navigation of complex compliance initiatives across a large work group with long time horizons.
• Clarify, make tractable, and solve large, ambiguous technical problems, reducing architectural chaos and delivering scalable, maintainable solutions.
• Partner with Legal, product managers, security, and other engineering teams to align competing priorities and drive organizational consensus in the best interest of Google and its users.
• Identify future compliance requirements or privacy risks, designing preventive architectural safeguards into the foundational layers of GMM.
• Elevate engineering standards, influence designs beyond the GMM Client Infrastructure team, and provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers.
