ServiceNow is seeking a Software Engineer for the Software Asset Management (SAM) product in Santa Clara. Build and own scalable code across design, testing, and delivery, collaborating with PMs, architects, and QA to improve licensing accuracy and performance.

You will work with AI-powered tooling, modern data stacks, and front-end frameworks, driving quality, observability, and production readiness in a fast-paced, distributed workforce.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience.

Job Description

About the Role:

The Software Asset Management product empowers organizations to manage software licensing and compliance with precision. Our engineers build performance-efficient algorithms that help customers achieve the most accurate licensing position possible. You’ll be responsible for the full software development lifecycle—from design and implementation to testing and delivery—while partnering closely with product managers, architects, and quality engineers. Together, we improve product quality, efficiency, and performance. The SAM team is deeply aligned with company priorities and market expectations, delivering solutions that matter.

What You Get to Do in This Role

• Build high-quality, clean, scalable, and reusable code by enforcing best practices around software engineering architecture and processes (Code Reviews, Unit Testing, etc.)
• Own your code from design through implementation, test automation, and delivery
• Collaborate with product managers to define feature sets that solve real customer problems
• Work with architects to shape product design and with QE to enhance quality and performance
• Contribute to new product features and enhance existing offerings

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you have:

Experience in leveraging critical thinking about how to integrate AI into work processes, decision-making, or problem-solving. This may include using AI-powered tools, automating workflows, analyzing AI-driven insights, or exploring AI’s potential impact on the function or industry.

• Hands-on experience with columnar/analytical data stores (e.g., ClickHouse, Apache Druid, Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or Vertica), including schema design, partitioning, and query optimization for large-scale analytical workloads.
• Experience building and operating distributed data pipelines for high-volume ingestion, transformation, and reconciliation (e.g., Apache Spark, Kafka, Flink, Airflow, or dbt).
• Experience creating dashboards and analytic reports with tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.

8+ years of experience in software engineering, with a track record of delivering high-quality products.

Proficiency in Python, Java, or similar object-oriented languages.

Experience with modern front-end frameworks such as Angular, React, or Vue.

Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, design patterns, and performance optimization

Familiarity with automated testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit, Selenium, TestNG) and integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines

Understanding software quality principles including reliability, observability, and production readiness.

Ability to troubleshoot complex systems and optimize performance across the stack.

Experience with AI-powered tools or workflows, including validation of datasets, model predictions, and inference consistency.

Comfort with development tools such as IDEs, debuggers, profilers, source control, and Unix-based systems

For positions in this location, we offer a base pay of $166,500 - $291,400, plus equity (when applicable), variable/incentive compensation and benefits. Sales positions generally offer a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive compensation structure. Please note that the base pay shown is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location. We also offer health plans, including flexible spending accounts, a 401(k) Plan with company match, ESPP, matching donations, a flexible time away plan and family leave programs. Compensation is based on the geographic location in which the role is located and is subject to change based on work location.
