Job Summary

Analyzes business requirements/functional designs and works with business teams, BSAs, and other engineers to design systems and application software, mentor junior members of the team.

Responsibilities

1. Solve for the customer - understand the WHY and enrich the specification to create a solution that delights customers
2. Take part in the estimation, design, and development of key system features
3. Evaluate and recommend the adoption of open-source and new technologies
4. Create efficient, reusable, and reliable code
5. Ensure cross-technical integration
6. Participate in peer reviews and adoption of standard coding processes
7. Provide administration of enterprise geospatial and data content platforms including Autocad, Postgis
8. Ensure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of the applications
9. Identify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions to these problems
10. Promptly resolve production issues based on priority - with a focus on unblocking the customer, and ensuring problems do not recur
11. Mentor junior team members

Qualifications

1. Proven strong experience in building robust services, preferably on a Java, Spring Boot–based cloud development stack
2. Solid understanding of object-oriented programming, design, and architectural patterns, messaging and event-based systems, and REST API design
3. Experience with multiple architecture styles including SOA, API-first, and micro-services architectures
4. Experience in managing GIS data within at least one of the following: Oracle, SQL Server, and/or PostgreSQL database environments
5. Experience and in-depth understanding of geographic information systems and geospatial data formats and metadata
6. Experience in architecting and building large-scale systems using a scale-out architecture that requires high availability, performance, high scalability, and multi-tenancy
7. Experience working on cloud-based SaaS/PaaS products
8. Understanding of web frontends and an understanding of HTML DOM, CSS, and event scripting
9. Experience using Kubernetes, Docker, API Gateways, Service Mesh, and related technologies
10. Hands-on experience working within the agile process and CI/CD frameworks e.g., GitHub Actions
11. Ability to transition between programming languages and toolsets
12. Ability to effectively communicate new ideas and design tradeoffs
13. Must: Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL/Aurora, JOOQ/JPA/Hibernate, 6+ years experience
14. Nice-to-haves: Experience with GraphQL including NodeJS, Apollo, Prisma, spatial databases
