Job description

Staff Software Engineer - Fountain One - Remote

France (Remote)

When you join the Fountain team, you become part of the leading enterprise solution for frontline workforce management. Fountain’s automated, customizable platform provides a seamless applicant experience for workers, while ensuring organizations can scale and manage their frontline talent.

We’ve helped hundreds of companies like UPS, CLEAR, Stitch Fix, GoPuff, Fetch, and sweetgreen to hire, onboard, and manage over 14 million workers in more than 75 countries.

In 2022, we closed $185M in our Series C, led by SoftBank and B Capital.

Join our growing team of highly collaborative, ambitious, and forward-thinking Fountaineers as we empower our hundreds of customers and millions of frontline workers around the world.

Let’s elevate frontline work together.

About the Role:

As a Software Engineer in the team, your role will involve guiding a team of 3 to 4 developers through regular cycles to maintain, enhance and strengthen our products. This includes tasks such as planning, architecture, development, and maintenance. To do so, you will receive support from product managers, designers, and other software engineers.

To succeed in this position, it is important to have a proven track record of working with rich enterprise products and possess strong leadership skills, and a solid technical background in frontend/backend development, data structures, and architecture.

The Fountain Engineering team is organized into product squads, each responsible for independently owning the product's health and market fit. The teams are the domain experts of their products, and are always looking to improve their operation.

We are a rapidly growing team that operates with agility and speed. You will be expected to make decisions even when faced with uncertainty, and you will have the freedom to do so. In fact, you will operate with the autonomy typically found in early-stage product development, rather than in a larger organization.

This role requires collaboration within a globally distributed organization, spanning different time zones, continents, and cultures (including Western and Northern Europe, USA, South Africa, Mexico, and more). This role is remote but you must be based in France.

What you'll be doing:

  • Plan and take responsibility for delivering improvements to your product
  • Lead, train, and coach your team members
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain product features and enhancements
  • Collaborate to enhance core stack technologies and architecture
  • Review and collaborate with other developers' work
  • Ensure the quality, reliability, operations, and security of your product
  • Collaborate closely with the product team throughout the product life cycle
  • Implement and maintain the stack using best practices and current pragmatic boundaries
  • Provide clear reports on scope, planning, and team members to your superiors

What you should bring:

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering
  • Demonstrated experience in a product-oriented software development
  • Experience leading engineering teams
  • Strong technical expertise in software development and architecture, and cloud-first solutions using some of the following technologies
  • Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL or equivalent SQL based technology, Redis
  • Ability to work independently and confidently, even in dynamic situations and with limited information
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English, to facilitate effective collaboration with the team.

Nice to have:

  • Experience in B2B SaaS startup environments and remote international settings is strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures, serverless architectures, high volume architectures, API strategies, MongoDB, AWS, micro-services, web security, and Agile methods is highly desirable

Fountain offers an incredibly unique work environment. We employ a diverse team all over the world. Each Fountaineer is given the freedom to do their best work from wherever they choose. We also understand the importance of in-person connections and hold in-person meetings with your team and meet annually as an organization to build our relationships and focus on the future of moving Fountain Forward.

The benefits we offer in the United States include competitive health plans and a retirement plan. Some Fountain-wide perks offered to all employees across the globe include a flexible vacation policy, paid holidays, monthly lunch stipends, annual allowances for ongoing education related to your profession and career advancement, along with home office, cell phone, and wellness reimbursements. Fountain is a global employer, so some benefit offerings will vary from country to country.
