Job summary

Intuitive Surgical, a global leader in robotic-assisted surgery, seeks a Staff Software Engineer to lead architecture of mixed-criticality embedded virtualization for the MP Platform Engineering group in Detroit. You will own the safety strategy, partitioning, hypervisor tuning, and device passthrough while coaching peers and guiding cross-functional initiatives.

Qualifications

• Expertise in scalable, high-performance embedded software architectures.
• Proficiency in C++ and Python for real-time systems.
• Experience with Linux/QNX environments and hypervisors.
• Proven leadership of strategic technical initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Define the virtualization safety architecture for a mixed-criticality system.
• Prototype and evaluate Xen and QNX hypervisors.
• Own hypervisor system configuration and integration.
• Architect deterministic inter-VM communication and device virtualization.
• Plan and execute analysis to demonstrate freedom from interference and deterministic timing.
• Lead failure modes and effects analysis for the virtualized platform.
• Build platform observability showing guest/hypervisor health and timing metrics.
