Job summary

HiveWatch is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to become the technical center of gravity for our HiveWatch Gateway edge appliance, linking our SaaS platform to customer systems at the device level. You’ll own the full stack from OS hardening to container orchestration and observability, setting direction while leading the engineering team.

You’ll guide Platform/DevOps architecture, implement IaC and CI/CD pipelines, and drive testing, reliability, and security across distributed edge

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience in production environments.
• 5+ years in platform engineering, infrastructure, or distributed systems in a senior role.
• Expertise with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and containerized applications (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar).
• Proficiency in at least one language in our tech stack (Kotlin, Rust, TypeScript, Python).
• Experience building and operating edge or IoT systems in production environments.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, DataDog, or equivalent).
• Strong debugging skills across distributed systems and microservices architectures.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Become the go-to expert and technical lead for our edge appliance and its stack.
• Be a technical leader of Platform/DevOps initiatives including systems architecture and design.
• Build and own the observability story for the edge: metrics, logging, and tracing.
• Raise the testing bar for edge software and fleet-level validation.
• Contribute to remaining mission-critical Platform systems like DevEx/CICD, network architecture, and database maintenance.
• Help evolve software development and delivery practices with AI-Native techniques.
• Deliver platform features to customers on AWS using IaC, CI/CD, and modern service delivery practices.
• Increase resiliency, scalability, and maintainability of environments.
• Assist with talent acquisition as we grow the engineering team.
• Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation and own root cause analysis and process improvement.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers.
