Staff Software Engineer - DevX Code Infrastructure

Remote - United States

This role is on the Developer Experience org, Code Infrastructure team, owning source control, code review, code search, build infrastructure, continuous integration, and related internal developer tools.

In this Staff Engineer role, you will cultivate the developer experience from initial code creation to the final built artifact. You’ll apply technical and leadership skills to ensure tooling is smooth, easy to use, and provides maximum value to a growing engineering organization. You’ll engage with the engineering org, understand users\' pain points, and incorporate feedback into designs and plans.

Some of our present and future challenges include:

• Scale Reddit’s build infrastructure, code review experience, self-hosted code storage infrastructure, and other tools for a growing Engineering organization.
• Design and instrument the next evolution of build and continuous integration tooling.
• Architect and build an integrated SDLC platform to reduce feedback cycle length.
• Make writing, linting, reviewing, testing, and shipping code easy.
• Improve the code review experience for every developer at Reddit.
• Develop a deep understanding of customer needs, identify opportunities to improve developer efficiency, confidence, and service reliability, and execute on those opportunities.
• Integrate novel technologies (e.g. Generative AI) to solve problems for developers with adaptability to a rapidly changing landscape.

You’ll Do

• Steer: Select, scope, and drive high-leverage projects that accelerate development and help Reddit achieve its goals.
• Build: Create a developer experience that reduces toil and provides faster, higher-quality feedback across the SDLC, including source control, builds, testing, code review, code integration, and knowledge search.
• Amplify: Mentor, coach, and collaborate with other technical contributors.
• Collaborate: Work with cross-functional teams across Reddit Engineering.
• Evolve: Learn and improve your technical and non-technical abilities.

You Have

• 7+ years of experience identifying, driving, and executing high-impact projects aligned with the company’s strategy.
• 5+ years in developer experience, infrastructure, or platform teams, with experience working on developer tools, libraries, and frameworks.
• 5+ years of industry experience in large-scale distributed systems and building scalable, reliable systems.
• Experience with CI / CD tools (Drone, BuildKite, Github Actions, Bazel, Argo Workflows/Rollouts/CD, Temporal, and other adjacent tools).
• Experience with Kubernetes and cloud providers (AWS, GCP).
• A track record of leading large-scale technical projects requiring cross-team collaboration.
• Ability to disambiguate complex problems, align stakeholders, and prioritize to execute on projects effectively.
• Excellent communication skills to drive toward consensus, navigate disagreements, influence decisions and priorities, and empower others.
• Empathy, curiosity, and humility to understand developer pain points and continuously improve systems.
• History of mentorship and technical leadership.
• Experience with GraphQL, REST, HTTP, and gRPC.
• Experience with GitHub Enterprise Server.
• Experience with mobile client CI/CD challenges (Bitrise, MacStadium, Orka, Gradle).
• Experience designing and implementing platforms.
• Experience with multi-region, multi-provider deployments.

In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for equity in the form of restricted stock units, and may be eligible for additional compensation depending on the position offered. The base pay range for this position is: $217,000 - $303,900 USD.
