Job summary

Garner Health is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our mission-driven team. You’ll help scale our AI-powered platform that analyzes billions of medical records to rank providers and optimize care across the U.S.

You’ll lead team-level technical strategy, mentor engineers, and push for best practices in security, data privacy, and reliability. This role blends hands-on coding with cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced startup environment.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience leading teams of engineers with demonstrated impact on technical strategy.
• Generalist mindset ready to learn new languages, frameworks, and techniques required for a fast paced startup environment.
• Demonstrated ability to build complex systems using AI coding agents (we use Claude Code).
• Able to learn quickly and mentor others.
• Familiarity with data security and HIPAA compliance.
• A desire to be part of a high-performing, mission-driven team that operates with intense urgency, a strong sense of individual accountability, and a commitment to authentic feedback.

Responsibilities

• Lead team-level technical strategy and execution on multi-quarter time horizons.
• Use AI to build, optimize, and maintain software systems.
• Uplevel engineers across the organization by raising the technical bar.
• Collaborate across disciplines to understand our domain and iterate on projects.
• Protect our users’ privacy and security through best practices.
