Grail is seeking a Staff-level full-stack engineer to build and maintain patient-facing software for The Galleri Test and related systems. The role focuses on robust cloud-based infrastructure, scalable services, and intuitive UI using Go, AWS, Kubernetes, Microservices, and React.

Based in Sunnyvale, CA, with on-site preference and option to work from home under a flexible hybrid policy. Minimum 60% on-site, with core on-site days Tue/Thu to engage in events and activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Bioinformatics, or similar field, or equivalent experience.
• 8–12+ years of full-stack development and microservice experience.
• Strong knowledge of Go, Java, Python, JavaScript, C++.
• Experience with React/Angular on frontend and Spring/Spring Boot on backend.
• Cloud and DevOps experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform.

Grail is looking for a Staff level full-stack engineer who enjoys working on a broad array of software systems and projects. The team is responsible for patient-facing software used for The Galleri® Test as well as gathering clinical data. We strive to build a robust and scalable infrastructure as well as easy-to-use UI interfaces. Our technical stack consists of Go, AWS, Kubernetes, Microservices, and React.

This role is based in Sunnyvale, California. We are moving to our new headquarters in September so you may visit us at our current Menlo Park, CA offices during the interview process. GRAIL offers a flexible work arrangement, with the ability to work from GRAIL's office or from home. Our current flexible work arrangement policy requires that a minimum of 60%, or 24 hours, of your total work week be on-site. Your specific schedule, determined in collaboration with your manager, will align with team and business needs and could exceed the 60% requirement for the site. At our Sunnyvale, CA campus, Tuesdays and Thursdays are the key days where we encourage on-site presence to engage in events and on-site activities. We may also consider candidates in Durham NC but the bay area is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Use your experience developing backend applications and distributed systems to build native cloud-based software that is leveraged by GRAIL’s key commercial offerings for the Galleri® Test , my.grail.com and provider.grail.com
• Develop and lead multiple large cross-functional / cross-organizational programs with high complexity, resource requirements and associated risks.
• Drive improvements for the software engineering organization based on understanding of business needs and industry trends
• Provide technical leadership in the form of standards, tools, and knowledge requirements for the software engineering organization
• Guide and mentors team members to provide an example of innovation and excellence

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Bioinformatics, or similar technical field or equivalent experience.
• 8-12+ years of meaningful work experience designing, developing, testing, and maintaining full-stack applications and microservice ecosystems.
• Excellent knowledge of: Programming Languages: Go (preferred), Java, Python, JavaScript, C++
• Excellent knowledge of: Frontend: React, Angular
• Excellent knowledge of: Backend: Spring, Spring Boot, REST APIs, gRPC (preferred)
• Excellent knowledge of: Cloud & DevOps: AWS (preferred), GCP, Azure, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform (preferred), Microservices
• Excellent knowledge of: Data: PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis
• Excellent knowledge of: Development Practices: CI/CD, Automated Testing, Agile Development
• Experience developing distributed systems on one of the cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience with writing and executing test protocols
• Passion for designing and building practical high-quality software solutions.
• Strong professional written and verbal communication skills.
• Familiarity with gRPC, terraform, AWS is a plus

The expected, full-time, annual base pay scale for this position is $169k-224k in the bay area.

This role may be eligible for other forms of compensation, including an annual bonus and/or incentives, subject to the terms of the applicable plans and Company discretion. This range reflects a good-faith estimate of the range that the Company reasonably expects to pay for the position upon hire; the actual compensation offered may vary depending on factors such as the candidate’s qualifications.
