Job summary

OfferUp is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Business team to own features end-to-end—from concept to production. You will design high‑throughput microservices, drive reliability and observability, and mentor engineers while shipping impactful capabilities across five business verticals.

You’ll partner with Product, Design and Business stakeholders, define multi-quarter roadmaps, and advocate for AI tooling and data-driven improvements. Remote options are available in some cases.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience building and operating data-driven applications at scale.
• Experience translating results into business recommendations.
• Hands-on experience using AI coding tools in production workflows.
• Strong Java skills and fluency in other modern languages; expertise in OOP, microservices, and distributed-systems design.

Responsibilities

• Define multi-quarter technical roadmap for the Business team.
• Design and operate high-throughput microservices with reliability and observability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement new features across five business verticals.
• Communicate complex technical designs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Mentor and grow other engineers on the team.
• Drive experimentation strategy and data-informed decision making.
